Kid Routine for a Stress Free Summer

Hey There!

Its summer break! All the school age kids are home full time, the sun is shining and its finally hot enough for us to complain about how hot it is! Things couldn"t be better, right? Well, if we can be really honest here for a minute, summer break can be stressful. Especially if you have 2 or more kids. With that in mind, I had to find a way to keep summer enjoyable for them and less stressful for me. Well its been summer break for about a month now and I must say, this has been the easiest summer I've had since becoming a SAHM.

What's the biggest difference between the school year and summer break? Routine. During the school year the days are planned- wake up, morning routine, school, come home, after school routine, dinner, evening routine and then bed- repeat.

Now you're probably thinking "I hate doing the same things over and over, why the f would my child want to do that?!". I promise I'm not a fun sucking monster, ruining summers. Simply put, kids find stability and safety in knowing whats going to happen. Also, when you give them a routine to follow and tasks they can accomplish on their own, it helps build their confidence. I did some research (like always) and kids actually thrive on routine. You can read a couple of the articles I read here and here

My kids summer routine is pretty easy-
Wake up
Breakfast, brush teeth & get dressed
Chores
Outdoor play
Lunch
Play of choice (or outing)
Quiet time & learning activity
Dinner
Screen time (or family time)
Showers and brush teeth
Bed

It can't be all work and no fun though- make sure you plan out some family fun at least once a week like a game night or even add a craft or experiment into the day. I've been working on a home summer camp with the kids, so far we've learned about space and the ocean. If you need more ideas, you can check out my pinterest for some fun stuff to do!

To help establish the routine and even give them a little more control, I decided to make a print out of the routine. After some browsing I ended up making my own. I added it to a frame and put it on the wall in their hallway. They can walk past it and check it through out the day. Added bonus: It blends with the decor.

I hope this tip and printable helps you like it has helped me. We only have 18 summers with them so we gotta make them count!

Thank you so much for reading and remember, always enjoy the little things!

Today I'm gonna be sharing a D.I.Y./re-purposed upcycle! Before we get into it though, i want to share a little backstory on the inspiration behind it.  (Tennessee, 2016) My husband loves catfishing . He started fishing with his Papaw at a young age and has been hooked ever since. (Pun intended lol!) If he's not working or at home, he's on the river.  Fishing is his go to hobby, stress reliever and it's something he loves sharing with us as family. Seeing his face light up telling his childhood stories and watching how excited he gets before he goes out has got me hooked. A family that fishes together, stays together! (Tennessee, 2017)     (Ohio, 2018) (Ohio, left is 2017 @ 8 months pregnant, right is 2018) So, when my husband told me that we were picking up a broken de

D.I.Y Jewelry Box Makeover

Hey There! So this week I'm sharing one of my favorite past times, turning blahhhh stuff into lovelyish! Lovelyish = lovely shit.   Lovelyish With Danie = Lovely Shit with Danie The more you know, lol. I've been really into taking old jewelry boxes and giving them makeovers. In such a weird way, its so stress relieving for me. The whole idea that I can take something and give it new life with a creative twist is just amazing to me. I scope out garage sales and goodwill for them. My favorites are the solid ones without the glass windows, but I like challenges too. Anyways, this is more of a d.i.y/inspirational post to spark creativity. Before you get rid of your old or unused jewelry box, think to yourself- what can I do to turn this into some lovelyish?! Well, let me inspire you. Below is my most recent find. I picked it up for a the low price of $3! Everything was still intact with only minor flaws. When I saw this, I knew exactly what it needed. The
